It was agreed unanimously that we take out the reference to Jersey from the Constitution, as requested by the London charity, Grassroots, which had given us a grant of over £3,500
It was further agreed unanimously that Susan Heggie should become a Trustee. Susan has been doing important work in Scotland and raising substantial funds for PSC research.
The Chairman thanked all those who had sponsored Will Thomas in his fine effort in running the London Marathon and raising over £3,000, in total, for Dr. Chapman's research fund. We had earlier handed over a cheque to Roger for £9,000 which he then proceeded to lose, (briefly). If only we could raise £100,000 next year!

The Chairman noticed that there were a number of young people in the audience and he appealed for new blood.  He was dismayed to see that nobody came forward! The truth is that PSC SUPPORT is mainly run by a handful of people in their '60s who, seriously, have some disabling symptoms. Nevertheless, they soldier on. The Chairman has let it be known that he intends to step down within a couple of years. If we get no replacements, PSC SUPPORT will die, and that would be very sad.

WHAT WE NEED

1) SOMEBODY WITH FUND-RAISING EXPERIENCE to help Jackie Thomas, who is still working full-time,  and is therefore under pressure.

2) SOMEBODY WHO CAN BE A GOOD SECRETARY to answer letters and emails and do some other occasional typing.
3) SOMEBODY TO ANSWER ENQUIRIES - telephone, letter, email, and give advice/information about PSC. We get one or two calls a week from people panicking after being newly diagnosed and getting inadequate information from their doctors. You will need empathy and basic knowledge of PSC and its problems and complications.

4) ONE OR MORE PEOPLE to do some medical research, and prepare articles for PSC NEWS.

None of these tasks involve more than a few hours a week but if the Chairman has to carry most of these out, with little help, then it becomes a burden and he's getting weary. Of course nobody is obliged to share any of this work, but our problem has always been that our active core is too small.

Our aim is to make PSC NEWS the best available source of information and advice on PSC and its complications. But it isn't cheap to produce, especially when we attend international conferences and meetings, as we did in Chicago and Oslo this year.

Costs should be covered by subscriptions, but they never are. We're no longer prepared to accept a situation where many members don't pay their subs. and we will have to stop sending them the newsletter. £15 a year is really not a great sum for the quarterly Newsletter, and invitations to our Birmingham and Oxford meetings. If it's a problem of memory, then please contact the membership secretary, Tony Rundle (tony-rundle@tiscali.co.uk) for a Standing Order form.  (Those who have given or continue to give donations will obviously always continue to receive the newsletter.)
